I have a shameful confession to make. And it's not that it's been literally years since I've last posted on this blog.
No, it's that.. gasp.. I actually like a Microsoft product. Wow, that was hard to type.
I know Microsoft is just another corporation, but gosh, they sure do make themselves easy to hate. The part I think I hate the most about them is the way they dominate the Operating System market with their expensive OS that doesn't even work that well. When there are FREE ones out there that work better.
And yet, I'm writing this from within Vista. Because, well, they dominate the OS market. I have Linux on this box, but it's hard to switch to it very often when everything is made to be compatible with Windows, maybe Mac, and maybe maybe maybe Linux. If I'm really lucky. Even the free, open source software available for Linux has also been compiled for Windows in most cases.
But that's beside the point. Vista's not the Microsoft product I actually like. No, the Microsoft product I actually like is… Microsoft Office.
In fact, I'm writing this blog post from within Microsoft Office. It took about two minutes (if that) to set it up to publish directly from Word to this blog.
Not to mention, Word is pretty. And I can find all the features I want, more easily. I don't have to activate new toolbars anymore (which was always irritating) and I have yet to need to add a new button to a toolbar to do something I really want. Now, granted, I've been using MS Word and Excel for a long time (I took a class on them for an entire year in 1997, for perspective). So I'm sort of a power user. And I don't know if anyone else could use this with as much joy as I do, but… At least they satisfied the power user.
Darn. Now I have to decide whether I am actually going to pay them more money (since I'm currently on a three-month trial that came with my computer) or give this up. The prettiness. Can I do it?
